The 4 Most Polluted Cities In the World
The pollution problem has hit every continent with choking smog and industrial emissions. Some cities have a better handle on the crisis than others, and are working overtime to correct the pollution issues. As for now, the top cities that are drawing the most attention include the following:
1. Linfen, China
Linfen China takes the lead as the world's most polluted city. It's
three million plus residents are subjected to airborne coal particles,
choking automobile emission and a growing industrial revolution that has
no regard for human safety. Living in Linfen has caused deadly lung
diseases equivalent to smoking three packs of cigarettes a day. Without
governmental guidelines for the safety and well being of its people, the
visible haze and rapidly deteriorating living conditions can only get
worse.
2. Los Angeles
You have heard the old adage of "it's a nice place to visit, but I
wouldn't want to live there", and the county of Los Angeles, California
takes the cake. Regarded as the most ozone polluted city in America, the
luster of L.A. has faded over the years with the increase in population
and all the cars on the road. The Los Angeles public transportation
system is getting better, however, this wide spread county requires a
car for the average residential commuter. The problem with the Los
Angeles smog has long been a running joke for comedians, but for the Los
Angeleans, it's no laughing matter. Cleaner air and cleaner emissions
is on the drawing board, but for now, Los Angeles takes second place for
the most polluted cities in the world.
3. London
The city of London may be rich with history, romance and intrigue,
however, the rise in industrialization has made life miserable for many
Brits living in the greater London area. British Parliament is quoted
saying that more than 50,000 London residents have died prematurely due
to rising levels of nitrogen oxides, which also contributes in a shorter
life expectancy of about nine years. The London transportation system
is excellent and, in time, the city's choking pollution issues may be
resolved. However, for now, London takes third place in the world's most
polluted cities.
4. Cairo
The capital city of Cairo is Egypt's most densely populated area with
upwards of 20 million people and counting. Factories and a lacking city
sanitation system adds to the pollution problems and there is not yet
any solution in sight. Brutal weather conditions in the summer months
make the Cairo pollution problem grow with intensity, affecting
residents and tourists alike. Egypt is the region's most traveled
country drawing curious crowds from the four corners of the earth to
admire and respect the pyramids, ancient temples and some of the most
breathtaking treasures ever discovered.
